Recycled Frame/Magnet Board

Here is another thrift store purchase. It was half price, so it cost $7.  I had all of the other components at home.

Here is how I made it:
1. Take the frame apart.  Spray paint the frame hot pink.

 2. Use the cardboard photo backing. Paint 2-3 coats of magnet paint to cover the board. letting each coat dry in between. On top of that, paint the acrylic color you want to show. Mine is lime green. Let that dry.

3.  Make a border of zebra print duct tape.

 4.  Put the board back into the frame. Hot glue it in place if it doesn't have little prongs that hold it in.

5.  Hot glue big silk daisies onto magnets.

My frame already had a sawtooth hanger on it, so it was ready to go.  Cute for $7!

Steering Wheel Dress Up

The steering wheel in Somebody's Mother's Car got a new look this afternoon.

You have a name for your car, right?  It's not just me?

It has been looking like this for awhile.  Poor thing is 13 years old, it needed a facelift. I was not excited about the boring steering wheel covers you find at the auto store.  And, I have been mulling this over:
from here.
But, it didn't seem quite right to me and besides i did not want to spend money.

And today, two things made me take action:
  • it finally bugged me just enough
  • the air conditioner in my car works better than the one in the house

So I got out the cool duct tape and sat in the car with the air and the radio on. My neighbors already think I am nuts, so that didn't matter.

All I had to do was wrap it around the steering wheel. I found it was easier to tear off a section than to wrap with the entire roll attached. But, it will probably depend on how roomy your dashboard is.

Naturally it needed dots. I put them on with acrylic paint and the end of the brush handle.

I don't know how durable it will be but I have more tape!  And I like it! And there isn't another one like it...unless you do yours too!  You know duct tape comes in all colors and patterns now. Check it out.

Duct Tape, Really?

No kidding. These flowers are made out of duct tape.  The Amazing Helen made these on the recent Michaels cruise.  Go to her blog for a tutorial and make some yourself.

This is a good time to say something about creativity, is it not?  How about those duct tape folks?  They already had an amazing product.  Who did not love and use duct tape for all kinds of functional reasons? But then they entered the craft industry by making duct tape in colors and patterns. And we love it. It is shiny and pretty and not to mention it really works and we know how to use it.

Then here comes the Amazing Helen who turns it into flowers.

Out of the box thinking on both of their parts. Love that.
